Dear RHS parents and students,
The state of Ohio mandates all school districts to complete an exercise cycle of our Emergency Operations Plans every three years. This year Ross is tasked with completing a functional exercise. Also called an operations-based exercise, it means you actually go out and do a drill or practice. The focus is to see how policies and procedures work in a realistic, but still simulated setting. In functional exercises, the practice includes changes in the situation that management must respond to and adjust. Our functional exercise will revolve around the reunification of students to parents after an incident.
The incident we will be completing is a bus accident. As stated earlier, Ross will focus on the reunification of students to parents while local fire/ems departments and law enforcement will focus on a mass casualty event. This drill will take place at the Morgan Township Fire Department on June 6, 2018 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We will be serving lunch to all volunteers.
We are reaching out to Ross High School because we are in need of 40 students AND their parents to participate. Each student will have a specific mock injury and will be triaged by the first responders. We will stage parents at a reunification site where we will be taking the students. Ross school staff will practice their process of reunifying students to parents at that site. I can’t give you more information at this time as certain decisions will be made during the drill. Lastly, the students will be moulaged (the art of applying mock injuries for the purpose of training emergency response teams and other medical and military personnel) for this incident they should wear clothes that they don’t care if makeup gets on them. If you are interested, please complete the permission form and return it to Mrs. Doblinger at RHS or email the completed form to Scott Gates, Superintendent at firstname.lastname@example.org.
