Ross Local School District chooses Elda Elementary Principal

On July 19, 2018 the Ross Local District School Board unanimously approved the recommendation to appoint Mrs. Quana Curtis as Interim Principal of Elda Elementary for the 2018-2019 school year. After discussing leadership options with staff members of Elda Elementary and taking into consideration the fast approach of the upcoming school year, the hiring of an interim principal presented itself as the best option. It is expected that a principal search will begin in the spring of 2019.

Mrs. Quana Curtis has been an  employee of the Ross Local School District for 32 years. She is a graduate of Taylor High School, located in the Three Rivers School District.  In 1986, Mrs. Curtis graduated with honors from the College of Mount St. Joseph, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education, along with a reading endorsement.  She was hired at Ross High School in the summer of 1986 to teach both English and reading, as well as coach the varsity, junior varsity, and freshman cheerleading squads.  Mrs. Curtis also served as a class advisor. In 1990, she received a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the College of Mount St. Joseph.  Over the next 10 years, while a classroom teacher, Mrs. Curtis obtained a Supervisor’s license, as well as a Principal’s license from the Education Administration program at Xavier University.  She completed her administrative practicum at Elda Elementary School, under the direction of then Elda Principal Dr. Shirley Curtis.  During her 32 years at Ross, she has spent 27 years as an English and reading teacher at Ross High School, teaching 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students.  Most recently, Quana has spent 5 years as the Ohio Resident Educator Coordinator for beginning teachers, as well as an OTES evaluator for teachers at Elda Elementary, Ross Middle School, Ross High School, and Ross Local School employees teaching at Queen of Peace School.

Mrs. Curtis has been married for 28 years to her husband Shawn. They have two daughters, Hannah and Hayley, who both graduated from Colerain High School in 2011 and 2015.  Her oldest daughter Hannah graduated from Thomas More College and Mount St. Joseph University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and a Master of Arts in Special Education.  Hayley, the youngest, is a college student at Northern Kentucky University. Currently, Quana is an Ohio High School Official for Women’s High School Gymnastics, as well as a member of the National Association of Women’s Gymnastic Judges and USA Gymnastics. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, reading by the pool, walking at the park, traveling, and interacting with her nieces and nephews.

Superintendent Scott Gates is excited for this appointment and believes Elda will be in capable hands during the 2018-2019 school year.  “Quana gives us solid leadership, effective communication, and a passion for the Ross /School District. Her knowledge and understanding  of the district, building, staff, and curriculum will allow for a smooth transition for the Elda community. Her appointment as interim principal for the 2018-2019 school year will allow us to do an in-depth principal search in the spring of 2019.”
