Dear Ross Ram Families and Community Members,

Each week I will update this page with a message from the Superintendent’s office.  This letter serves as the update for the week of April 26, 2020.

As stated in my letter last week, Governor DeWine has closed school for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  We are finalizing plans for our distance learning, grading/report cards, rescheduling of important activities such as graduation and student supplies pickup.  We are also beginning to plan for the 2020-2021 school year as we await decisions from our Governor. All decisions will be communicated through Final Forms email, SendIt phone call, website update, facebook and twitter.   We appreciate your patience as the Ross District Leadership team finalizes plans that are efficient, effective, safe and meet the guidelines of ODE and the State of Ohio.

Our next food distribution will take place on Tuesday May 5, 2020 3:00-7:00 at RHS.   We will be distributing 10 days worth of breakfast and lunch for each student in a family.   We will also be collecting pet supplies at the district’s administration office through April 30, 2020. You can drop off supplies at the top of the stairs.  These supplies will also be distributed on May 5, 2020.  We cannot forget our four legged friends.  They serve as an important part of our emotional and mental health.

Dear Ross Ram Families and Community Members,

Each week I will update this page with a message from the Superintendent’s office.  This letter serves as the update for the week of April 19, 2020.

It appears we may have some news this week from Governor DeWine regarding the future of the 2019-2020 school year.  Our district leadership team is meeting this week to begin planning for two options; we start school on May 4, 2020 per the Governor’s timeline or we are closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.  I have great confidence in my leadership team in developing strong plans for either decision. I’m sure we can all agree that we want to get back to school in a safe environment. As soon as we hear anything we will reach out to you via SendIt (phone call messaging system), Final Forms emails, facebook, twitter and the website.

It has been enlightening for me to observe all the great things happening in our community during this shut down.  I am constantly observing, reading and viewing the way relationships continue and are growing through twitter, facebook and the ever important ZOOM!  Be confident that this will continue until we are able to assemble face to face.

This week we have a student meal distribution for families needing our support.  We will be distributing 10 days worth of breakfast and lunch for each student in a family.  The distribution takes place at Ross High School on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 3:00-7:00. We will also be collecting pet supplies at the district’s administration office on Monday (2:00-5:00) and Tuesday (12:00-2:00).  We cannot forget our four legged friends. They serve as an important part of our emotional and mental health.

Another unique activity will take place Monday, April 20, 2020 at 8:20 p.m. at the Ross School Athletic Facility.  Thanks to our Athletic Director Jake Richards for making this happen. Ross will turn on the stadium lights at 8:20 (military time is 20:20) for 20 minutes on 4-20-2020 to honor the graduating class of 2020.

The Ross Board of Education will be streaming their first Board meeting on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.  Please look for specific link information on the district’s website.

Dear Ross Ram Families and Community Members,

Each week I will update this page with a message from the Superintendent’s office.  This letter serves as the update for the week of April 12, 2020. I hope you all had a nice holiday weekend. A quick personal note, my voice has been challenged lately and  I’ve been diagnosed with reflux laryngitis so for the next several weeks I’ll be resting my vocal chords as much as possible as they have been damaged.

We are still waiting for plans from Governor DeWine regarding the rest of the 2019-2020 school year.

I’m very proud of our entire staff for their efforts with our breakfast/lunch preparation and distribution.  To date we have distributed over 39,000 meals to our students. We’ve also received over $7000.00 in monetary donations to support the meal distribution from students, staff, parents, community members and businesses. THANK YOU!

Dear Ross Ram Families and Community Members,

Each week I will update this page with a message from the Superintendent’s office.  It is my hope that we answer all of your questions via the links located on this page of the Ross Ram website.

There are so many adjectives to define the time we are living through but the one that keeps coming to mind is “amazing.”  Our district leadership, teachers, and support staff have been “amazing” by supporting one another and our students. Our parents and guardians have been “amazing” by supporting their children, their families, their work world and the community. Finally, the community has been “amazing” by coming together to help one another at the local, state and national levels.

If you don’t find an answer to your question on this site, please do not hesitate to reach out to a teacher, principal, director, or me to get your question answered.

Thank you,

Scott Gates, Superintendent
Ross Local School District
